Wearing Pants Again!

Yesterday's trip to Shriner's was quite wonderful. Abby had her cast removed, we gave her a bath, we weighed her (yes, she's gone up almost another pound in the last week) and she had another ultrasound on her hips. The ultrasound showed that her hips were still in good shape - great news. She then had numbing cream placed on her left heel. We went to the cafeteria for a bite to eat and a doctor came to get Abby for her procedure 45 minutes after the cream was placed. They injected more numbing medicine before performing the procedure. They essentially cut into her Achilles tendon so that it can be long enough to finish the clubfoot correction. After the small incision was made, they casted her foot one last time.

This cast will be on for three weeks and the tendon will heal in the meantime at the appropriate length. Perhaps the best part of the day? She only needs to wear her harness for 12 hours at night now! Where her hips are fine now, the harness is just reminding them where they need to be. It's kind of weird holding her, feeding her, and changing her diaper without the harness on - we're so used to it. We're definitely happy to readjust this way, though! Also, it means that Abby can finally wear pants and socks (well, one sock for now) again - yay! Definitely something to be happy about. She was a little bit uncomfortable last night, but with a little Tylenol she was happy again. I've said it before and I'll say it again (and again): she's a tough cookie. Life is good in the Barton household!
