All's Well
I've had a few questions from people who want to make sure Abby is still doing alright. In our case, no news is good news - she's doing great!
Since her MRI, we've only had a check-up visit to Shriner's (besides her twice a month physical therapy visits). The only notable information from Shriner's is as follows:
-We'll go in for another follow-up in a few weeks to make sure the brace is still doing its job. She got a bigger size of shoe, but her foot still looks great. Hopefully at that visit our doctor will say that she doesn't need to wear the brace full-time, just at night.
-Abby had an x-ray of her hips to be sure they're still where they need to be. They look great!
-Abby's left heel has yet to move down all the way after her tendon lengthening procedure. Our doctor didn't seem too concerned that the heel bone is not yet at the bottom of her foot, where it needs to be. We'll continue to watch that and fingers crossed that that happens successfully. If it doesn't, there's the chance that Abby needs to have the tendon lengthened again, as it may not have been enough the first time around. We'll keep you posted after her appointment in a few weeks.
Well, that's about it! Abby is still growing and doing well. While we were in Seattle this week she decided she was big enough to sit up by herself. She can sit up for about 30-60 seconds (that time grows every day) by herself and is just thrilled with herself. I'm thrilled too, because it shows her legs are strong enough to help her balance. We're still working on rolling over, but that will come with time and I think the delay is due in large part to her brace. We do leg stretches to help strengthen her hip extension and lead to rolling over (she scrunches her legs toward her body, making it hard to roll over). Yesterday she figured out how to blow raspberries and has been able to entertain herself that way for a while now. She's a gem and is truly a light in our lives.
As always, let me know if you have any questions!
