Just Your Casual Wednesday Brain Surgery
Abby was scheduled for shunt placement surgery this morning at 10:00 and was finally wheeled down to the operating room around 11:30 (after not eating since 6:00 in the morning, she was understandably a little grumpy). Her surgery was expected to last around an hour and a half, but she was done in just over an hour. She handled it really well and things went smoothly! It was rough to see her afterwards in recovery with what seemed like a huge piece of hardware, but I've already adjusted. I'm sure it will take more time to be 100% comfortable with it, but I know that this shunt will help her brain regulate the fluid and drain it appropriately. I'm happy that it will help her live a more comfortable life, even if it complicates things a little more. She's still a little groggy, but seems to be doing just fine. We're so thankful for modern medicine and the wonderful doctors who are with us every step of the way.

ReplyDeleteYou'll just need to come more often :) She's definitely been more alert, but we're quick to pull out the camera because sometimes it doesn't last long. Love you!
